Content marketing consultant

Content marketing works when it is planned around the questions people are asking, written to be genuinely useful and connected to a clear business purpose.

I help businesses create content strategies, SEO content and page improvements that make it easier for the right people to find, understand and choose them.

Planning notes and printed research spread across a desk.

What content work covers

Research and planning

This includes keyword research, question research, search-intent analysis and competitor review.

The focus is not simply on search volume. It is on identifying the terms, topics and questions that are relevant to the business and realistic for the website to compete for.

Content briefs

A good brief gives a writer a clear route to follow.

It can include the purpose of the page, intended audience, search intent, key questions to answer, recommended structure, internal links, supporting evidence and the action the page should encourage.

SEO content and copywriting

SEO content should be written for people first, with search considered throughout.

I can write or refine service pages, landing pages, guides, articles and other website content. This includes SEO copywriting for pages that need to explain an offer clearly while supporting organic visibility.

Improving existing content

Often, the most useful content work is improving what already exists.

A page that is already close to performing well may need clearer information, stronger structure, better internal links or a more useful answer to the question behind the search. Improving existing pages can be a more effective starting point than creating new ones.

Measurement and review

Content needs to be reviewed against its purpose.

I look at how pages are performing, what they are attracting, what they are contributing and what should change next. The results inform the next priorities, helping the content plan become more useful over time.

Why content needs a clear purpose

Content is often produced consistently without a clear reason for each piece to exist.

A blog may follow a regular calendar, but the topics are not based on real search demand. Articles may be well written, but they do not answer the questions customers are asking or support the services the business needs to sell. Over time, the website becomes fuller without becoming more useful.

Good content starts before the writing.

It begins with understanding what people are looking for, what they need to know before making a decision and where the business has something worthwhile to add. It also means deciding whether a page should help someone discover the business, understand an offer, compare options or take the next step.

The aim is not to publish more for the sake of it. It is to create content that earns its place on the website.

Content strategy

A Content Strategy gives you a clear plan for what should exist, what needs improving and where to focus first.

I look at the available search demand, the topics and questions relevant to your audience, the current website and the wider competitive landscape. This helps identify the gaps that matter, the pages with greater potential and the areas where the business can create something more useful or distinctive.

The final strategy sets out the priorities, content opportunities and the role each piece needs to play. It can include a plan for new content, improvements to existing pages, content briefs and a structure that helps pages support one another rather than compete for the same attention.

You can use the strategy with your own team, an existing writer or as the foundation for ongoing support with me.

How the work runs

Content work can begin with a defined Content Strategy or form part of a wider SEO engagement.

The strategy gives you the direction: what to prioritise, why it matters and how the work should be approached. From there, you may choose to implement it internally, work with an existing writer or continue with me on a retained basis.

For ongoing support, we agree a realistic level of work and review the priorities regularly. Some months may focus on improving key service pages; others may involve creating new content, briefing contributors or reviewing how existing pages are performing.

I can write the content myself, work from input supplied by your team, or create briefs and edit work produced by an existing writer. The right approach depends on the subject matter, the volume required and where the knowledge sits within the business.

When the answer is not more content

More content is not always the answer.

If the website already has useful pages that are close to performing well, improving them may be the better first step. If search engines cannot crawl or understand the site properly, technical SEO may need attention before new content is added.

If the website attracts the right people but does not generate enough enquiries, the priority may be the website structure, messaging or conversion journey rather than content volume.

The useful question is not “What should we publish next?” It is “What will make the greatest difference now?”

Is this right for you?

Content Marketing support is a good fit for businesses with useful expertise to share, clear offers to explain and the patience to build visibility over time.

It works particularly well where customers need to research, compare or build trust before they make a decision. Your team’s knowledge is an important part of the work: I can shape, structure and write the content, but the strongest pieces draw on genuine experience from within the business.

If you need immediate results from a short campaign, content may not be the right first investment.

Common questions

Do you write the content yourself?
Yes. I can also work from input supplied by your team, brief an existing writer or edit work that has already been drafted.
How much content do we need?
The answer depends on the website, audience and opportunity. A content strategy identifies what is most useful to create or improve, rather than starting with a fixed publishing quota.
How long does content take to work?
Improvements to existing pages can sometimes show an effect within weeks. New content usually needs several months to establish, particularly in competitive search results.
Do you use AI to write content?
I use tools where they are useful for research and planning, but published content needs human judgement, subject-matter knowledge and careful editing. The final work should be accurate, useful and recognisably written for the audience it is intended to help.
Can content support SEO without sounding written for search engines?
Yes. Good SEO content begins with the question a person is trying to answer. Search helps identify that question; the content needs to answer it clearly and usefully.
